I've released a new song, "Left Wondering", an introspective take on getting older, and feeling irrelevant and invisible. Following the rapid fire pace of the Singles Collection, I've been working steadily on "Us", an album project of thematically linked songs. This approach to writing is new to me, and is taking a bit longer (though progressing nicely). I've been itching to get something out. I've been creating many pieces of music and chose this one to complete. I'm not sure if this song will be part of "Us" (it could be).
I also wanted to try out some new production techniques and effects. I recently read a great book, "Musician's Survival Guide to a Killer Record". One of the things discussed is keeping normally wide elements (like piano, synths, etc) in mono, and panning them in the stereo field. Initially, it takes a bit of getting used to, but in the end, I love the result. I also used an interesting panning tool (Boz Digital's "Pan Knob"), rather than Logic's pan knob, for more natural panning when listening in headphones.
"Left Wondering" is available now at all major online shops for purchase and/or streaming.
